School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics  

The School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics has a long history in engineering education. The school’s roots go back to the Department of Mechanics in Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of Technology in the year of 1958. In 1996, the department of Civil Engineering and Mechanics was established and it was renamed the School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics in 2001.

The School employs 101 faculty and staff, including 76 teachers, 14 lab technicians, 11 staff. Among the faculty, there are 6 Ph.D. supervisors, 17 professors, and 32 associate professors. 63.6% of the faculty have doctoral degrees. Young and dynamic, the teaching team has made achievements.

The school has visiting scholars from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering and other well-known universities at home and abroad. The lectures presented by the visiting scholars promote the academic exchanges and the development of various disciplines. The school Organized a number of teaching and research exchange activities, including: the "Sino Japanese Shell Theory Basis and Application Seminar", "Youth Symposium on Nonlinear Mechanics", " Academic Forum for Young Teachers ", and " Teaching & Research Forum for Young Teachers ". To strengthen students’ engineering practice, the school, in cooperation with the relevant enterprises and institutions, has built professional practice teaching bases, including: 4 state-level engineering practice education centers and 33 research innovation bases. The school won 2 first prizes and 4 second prizes of Hebei Teaching Achievement Award;has 3 provincial-level quality courses, and 1 provincial excellent teacher. In the last few years, the faculty undertook over 40 national key science technology projects, Hebei National Natural Science Fund Projects, and 100 enterprise cooperation projects; and won 2 national scientific and technological progress awards, 15 provincial-ministerial level scientific and technological progress awards. Over 100 papers were published on high-profile academic journals every year. The annual research budget tops 4,500,000 yuan.
